Aéropostale is looking for an Assistant Designer to support the Design team in creating and executing a product line. The role involves researching trends, maintaining design office organization, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to prepare for milestone meetings.
Responsibilities
- Create sketches of styles in development
- Maintain logs for sample tracking and update CBS sheets
- Maintain seasonal collection boards and walls
- Execute organized, accurate technical packages
- Create and update flat technical sketches for design tech packs
- Develop strong working relationships with cross functional team members (Merchandising, Production and Graphics) through communication and problem solving
- Create and update seasonal assortment sheet
- Maintain awareness of current selling information as well as market trends and conditions
- Understand the basics of the production process as it relates to the classification
- Maintain awareness of corporate calendar and help supervisor manage deadlines
- Attend and participate in fit sessions
- Take detailed notes and follow up as needed
- Assist in day to day responsibilities including filing/organizing, copying and updating development packages
- Assist in approving strike-offs, lab-dips and other development materials
- Shop the market on a regular basis for ideas and inspiration
- Prepare presentation materials for weekly and milestone meetings; garment samples, line sheets, CBS sheets
- Research and identify trends that are relevant to the Brands customer
- Create inspiration boards for seasonal trends
- Support design presentation prep for cross-functional and external meetings when needed
- Assist with color and fabric development (including tracking submits and approvals)
- Help maintain a seasonal competitive market matrix (silhouettes, trends, etc.)
- Keep digital assets organized and up-to-date across shared folders/PLM
- Support line planning in partnership with merchandising (especially for different channels like core/fashion/digital)
- Help track samples, manage incoming packages, and coordinate with production partners
Skills
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- 1-2 years of experience
- Strong sketching skills with the ability to sketch quickly in Illustrator
- Must demonstrate proficiency in CAD, Photoshop, & Illustrator
- Must have ability to be flexible, multi-task and shift priorities
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Understanding of the youth market and Aero customer
- Basic knowledge of garment construction/sewing
- Strong time management, especially around tight deadlines
- Team player with a collaborative, flexible mindset—comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong visual and storytelling skills (especially for trend or concept boards)
- Travel may be required, based on business needs
- Adhere to regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration
- Must have authorization to work in the United States
- Experience using PLM is a plus
