Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Paraprofessional, Instructional Aide to join our team at Liberty Elementary School. As a Paraprofessional, Instructional Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and personal growth of students with special needs in a self-contained classroom setting. Key Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher in planning, preparing, and implementing instructional activities and materials to meet the diverse needs of students with special needs
- Provide individualized support and accommodations to students, including academic, behavioral, and emotional support
- Develop and maintain a positive and respectful learning environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth
- Collaborate with the teacher and other support staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavioral intervention plans
- Assist with classroom management, organization, and maintenance of a safe and healthy learning environment
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure a comprehensive and supportive approach to education
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with special needs
Essential Qualifications
- A paraprofessional license (Educational Aide Permit) with an ESEA Qualified endorsement through the Ohio Department of Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
- Experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a self-contained classroom setting
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain confidentiality
- Physical ability to lift, move, and restrain students as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with behavioral intervention strategies and techniques
- Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive equipment
- Training in crisis intervention and prevention, such as CPI or similar
- Fluency in a second language, preferably Spanish
- Experience with data collection, progress monitoring, and reporting
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of special education principles, practices, and laws
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues
