ABRAMS is a trailblazer in illustrated publishing since 1949, seeking an Editorial Assistant to join their Children’s Editorial team. The role involves providing editorial and administrative assistance, managing schedules, and liaising with authors and other departments to ensure smooth publishing processes.
Responsibilities
- Taking notes in meetings, managing mailings to authors and agents, processing expenses, maintaining calendars and meeting agendas, and handle general editorial tasks as needed
- Trafficking and logging editorial materials on active projects, liaising with other departments (managing editorial, design, production, sales, marketing, publicity, contracts, and accounting)
- Communicating with authors, artists, and agents
- Managing schedules and due dates for major publishing programs, and communicating between teams to make sure materials are accurate and distributed on time
- Writing fact sheets, catalogue copy, P&L drafts, and cover copy
- Editorial tasks also include: light proofreading, collating multiple set of galleys, making text corrections
- Vetting agented submissions for quality and responding to proposals/submissions/inquiries
- Additional administrative tasks include: scheduling meetings and booking conference rooms, guiding and training interns, independently shepherding the occasional board book reissue or co-pub project if needed
- Creating and managing PowerPoints for (4) four meetings a year to present books to Sales
Skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- Ability to work independently and follow through consistently on assignments
- Detail-oriented: Position requires accuracy and careful attention to detail
- Excellent grammar, spelling, communication, and writing skills
- Copyediting/proofreading experience helpful
- Must be highly organized, energetic, and able to juggle multiple priorities efficiently and calmly
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is needed
- Demonstrated interest in children's books
