Key Responsibilities
- Teach Dance Classes: Demonstrate proper technique and routines for class participation, adapting instruction to meet the needs of students with varying levels of experience and ability.
- Develop and Implement Dance Programs: Utilize your expertise and creativity to design and implement engaging dance programs that align with our studio's goals and values.
- Choreograph Dance Routines: Create original choreography for classes, performances, and competitions, showcasing your artistic vision and technical skill.
- Manage the Classroom: Establish a positive and respectful classroom environment, ensuring that students are safe, supported, and motivated to learn.
- Ensure Participant Safety: Identify and address potential safety concerns, taking proactive steps to prevent injuries and ensure a safe and healthy environment for all students.
- Communicate Effectively: Build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues through clear and effective communication, providing constructive feedback and guidance as needed.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- Multi-Genre Dance Experience: Proficiency in multiple dance styles, such as ballet, jazz, tap, acro, contemporary, and pointe, with the ability to teach and choreograph in these styles.
- Experience Working with Children: A minimum of 2 years of experience working with children aged 2 and older, with the ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse age groups and skill levels.
- Strong Instructing Skills: The ability to demonstrate and teach complex dance techniques, with a strong focus on safety, proper alignment, and artistic expression.
- Classroom Management: Proven ability to manage a classroom effectively, maintaining a positive and respectful environment that promotes learning and engagement.
- YMCA Competencies: Alignment with the YMCA's values and mission, including a commitment to serving others, building strong relationships, and promoting community engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Teaching Experience: Prior experience teaching dance classes, with a proven track record of success in developing and implementing engaging dance programs.
- Choreography Experience: Experience creating original choreography for performances, competitions, or other events, showcasing your artistic vision and technical skill.
- Certifications or Specialized Training: Relevant certifications or specialized training in dance instruction, such as certification in a specific dance style or technique.
