Job Overview
The Autopilot Data Annotation organization at Tesla is responsible for annotating images, movies, and distinct virtual digital camera statistics to train neural networks and serve as the ground truth for Autopilot's artificial intelligence. As a Data Annotation Supervisor, you will lead a team of Data Annotation Specialists who label 3D and image data for neural network training. Your primary objective will be to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the annotated data, which is critical to Tesla's achievement of full self-driving capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct ongoing performance management of the team, including creating training plans, tracking progress, and completing monthly analyses and performance reports.
- Evaluate daily performance in proprietary software and report daily summaries and team metrics.
- Work directly with engineers and Autopilot leadership to own annotation guidelines that require a record of every technical and operational constraint.
- Develop and maintain project recommendations to discuss labeling requirements effectively, labeling inefficiencies, and assist in creating documentation and training materials.
- Execute proper headcount allocation among Quality Control and labeling, and prioritize project queues daily as directed by management.
- Ensure documentation and daily planning for the team is accurate and continuously updated.
- Perform other supervisory duties, including employee development, conducting bi-annual performance reviews, and monthly performance check-ins with Team Leads and Data Annotation Specialists.
- Recognize employees who consistently exceed expectations and mentor direct reports to ensure the team works as a cohesive unit.
- Accurately manage timekeeping and attendance via the Kronos system.
Essential Qualifications
- Experience managing and motivating medium-sized teams that perform manual operations.
- Ability to manage time efficiently, prioritizing tasks with order of precedence and completing them in a timely manner.
- Commitment to data accuracy and throughput.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with an aptitude for immediate learning systems.
- Proven track record of executing and meeting sensitive deadlines.
- Experience managing multiple competing priorities with limited resources.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex topics and ideas in a simple and concise manner.
- Proficiency in extensive workflow software (JIRA, Excel, etc.).
