Non-QM Mortgage Loan Underwriter

Position Overview: The Mortgage Loan Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and analyzing Non-QM mortgage loan applications to determine the borrower’s creditworthiness and compliance with investor and regulatory guidelines. This role involves careful examination of credit reports, income and asset documentation, appraisals, and other loan documents to ensure accurate risk assessment and decision-making. Key Responsibilities: • Experience with DSCR, Bank Statement, P&L, and other Non-QM products • Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, credit reports, income, asset documentation, and property appraisals. • Ensure all loans investor guidelines, as well as company policies and regulatory requirements. • Make loan decisions (approval, counteroffer, suspense, denial) and clearly document the rationale in the loan file. • Collaborate effectively with internal and external business partners, including account executives, account managers, Jr. underwriters, and closing department to ensure accurate and timely processing of mortgage loans. • Provide excellent customer service through clear, respectful, and solution-oriented communication with all business partners. • Maintain productivity and quality metrics as defined by management. • Identify and mitigate risk while maintaining excellent customer service standards. • Stay current with changes in underwriting guidelines, compliance regulations, and market conditions. • Respond to audit and quality control requests in a timely and accurate manner. Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field preferred. • 5+ years of recent experience underwriting residential mortgage loans. • Strong understanding Non-QM, and jumbo loan guidelines. • Experience with Encompass mortgage LOS preferred. • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. • High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management abilities. • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a professional demeanor when interacting with business partners and internal teams. • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to building positive relationships across departments. • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Work Environment: • Remote work environment depending on company policy. • May require extended hours during peak periods. • Must maintain confidentiality and security of customer and company information.
