The Lead External Affairs role is responsible for advancing the organization’s public policy and community engagement objectives through strategic communications and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with government officials, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and third‑party coalitions
• Serve as the company’s representative on local boards, commissions, and civic groups
• Act as a visible, trusted corporate presence within assigned regional communities
• Plan, coordinate, and execute community events that strengthen partnerships between the company, elected officials, and local stakeholders
• Promote company initiatives, address constituent concerns, and cultivate positive community perception
• Promote the company’s public policy and business priorities during public hearings, forums, and State/Municipal/Regional Government meetings
• Collaborate with State Legislative Affairs teams to support industry‑friendly policy outcomes
• Meet with legislators and staff to discuss pending issues and provide updates on company initiatives
• Support Political Action Committee (PAC) activities and solicitations
• Facilitate internal collaboration across business units, including fiber/wireless deployment, government contracting, and emergency response coordination
• Manage corporate sponsorships, memberships, and AT&T Foundation grants within the region
• Assist corporate communications and public affairs teams with media messaging and stakeholder engagement during sensitive or high‑visibility matters
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Lead municipal government relations strategy and execution
• Serve as the company’s primary community representative within assigned regions/markets
• Manage regional sponsorships, memberships, and grant resources
• Represent the company on community, nonprofit, and civic boards and committees
• Function as a trusted community partner and thought leader among civic, political, social, and economic organizations
• Organize regional events that connect communities, public officials, and internal business priorities
• Act as a liaison between business units, first responders, and public officials during emergencies
• Collaborate with legislative district offices to manage constituent concerns and service escalations
• Advocate for company interests during public hearings, meetings, and government proceedings
• Support PAC related activities and stakeholder outreach
• Serve as a liaison between communities and the AT&T Foundation
• Assist communications teams in managing messaging and stakeholder relations on sensitive issues
Skills
• Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) desired
• 5+ years of related experience
• Certification is required in some areas
• Must reside within Orlando/ Central Florida area. No relocation offered
