The Council on Foreign Relations is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks, aiming to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs. The research associate will support fellows in the Latin America Studies program by conducting research, assisting with publications, and providing administrative support.
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the fellows, including handling correspondence, scheduling, making travel arrangements, and responding to requests for information
- Research specific areas for talks, articles, and other publications; assisting with the proofreading and editing of articles, book chapters, and other written material
- Assist the fellow with social media outreach, including publishing on the website, and/or using social media applications such as X, Google+, etc., as needed
- Track news and data sources
- Coordinate events, including preparing invitations, travel arrangements, corresponding with speakers and presiders, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support
- Assist in managing budgets, including preparing budgets and tracking monthly statements, monitoring grant information and writing reports and requests, and preparing vouchers for reimbursement
- Provide support across departmental lines and for other fellows, upon request
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in international relations, political science, economics, and/or Latin America studies, with high academic credentials
- 1+ year related research and/or administrative experience
- Strong understanding of political economy
- Reading, writing, and speaking fluency in the Spanish language
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and internet research
- Excellent research, writing, and editing skills
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
- A published, non-academic writing sample is a plus
- Working knowledge of Portuguese a plus
