Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Analytics Engineer to join our growing Data Engineering and Business Intelligence team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with arenaflex's IT information design and analytics teams to implement and maintain data system pipelines that enable report automation for our Healthcare Quality Improvement program. You will work alongside a cross-functional team of data analysts, BI engineers, system administrators, and business stakeholders to deliver high-performance insights across the arenaflex Health enterprise.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for data engineering, strong technical expertise in ETL/ELT processes, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Analytics Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in managing and delivering data and insights initiatives that power our healthcare analytics capabilities. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines and data workflows that support reporting and analysis projects across the organization. You will be responsible for creating efficient, scalable, and reliable data processing solutions.
- Data Warehouse Management: Support long-term and ad-hoc data warehousing activities to meet arenaflex Health reporting and analytics requirements. This includes building and optimizing data models, managing data integration, and ensuring data quality and consistency.
- Data Modeling: Plan, develop, and deliver layered datasets and data pipelines to support reporting and analysis projects. Create data staging and pre-processing standards for populating logical and physical data models attached to report-specific working tables.
- Data Integration: Apply data extraction, transformation, and loading best practices to integrate large datasets from various internal production system sources and third-party files. Work with diverse data formats and sources to create unified data views.
- Data Analysis: Perform comprehensive data profiling and data analysis across internal production systems, manually maintained data, and standard healthcare datasets including member eligibility, clinical claims, pharmacy claims, and HEDIS ECDS files.
- Automation & Tool Development: Create internal tools for automation of all development-related activities including data processing, QA, data validation, and deployment processes. Focus on improving efficiency and reducing manual effort across the data engineering lifecycle.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including data analysts, BI engineers, system administrators, and business stakeholders to deliver performance insights across arenaflex Health.
- Technical Leadership: Provide thought leadership and present tool-agnostic semantic data layer enhancements related to BI technology platforms. Mentor junior team members and contribute to best practices documentation.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following technical expertise and professional qualities:
- SQL Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience writing and tuning SQL-based ETL/ELT scripts. You should be comfortable with complex queries, stored procedures, and performance optimization.
- Data Engineering Platforms: Experience designing and deploying logically separated data environments using ETL/ELT services such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or Snowflake. Familiarity with cloud-based data warehousing solutions is essential.
- Business Intelligence Tools: Experience providing thought leadership and presenting tool-agnostic semantic data layer enhancements related to BI technology platforms such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Looker.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with technical teams, internal stakeholders, clients, and vendor partners. Must be able to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Business Acumen: At least 3 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace. Understanding of how data drives business value and strategic decision-making.
- Leadership Experience: At least 3 years of direct management, indirect leadership, or cross-functional team leadership experience. Demonstrated ability to guide teams and drive projects to successful completion.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time for business purposes, including both in-state and out-of-state travel.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Certification: Data Management Certified Analysis Professional (CAP) or equivalent data management certification.
- Healthcare Industry Experience: Experience with pharmacy, healthcare, and clinical investigation concepts. Familiarity with healthcare data standards, medical terminology, and regulatory requirements.
- Healthcare Data Knowledge: Understanding of healthcare data domains including claims data, pharmacy data, member eligibility, and quality measurement frameworks such as HEDIS.
- Advanced Analytics: Experience with advanced analytics, machine learning, or predictive modeling in healthcare settings.
