About the role:
Bixal has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Spanish Translation Specialist to help accelerate digital transformation for federal clients. In this role, you will be part of a cross-functional team applying human-centered innovation and effective communication strategies to improve engagement.
The Spanish Translator supports the Head Start Information & Communication Center (HSICC) by providing high-quality, culturally appropriate Spanish translations for digital content, outreach materials, and stakeholder communications produced by the Office of Head Start (OHS). This role ensures that Spanish-language audiences—including families, staff, and community partners—have equitable access to Head Start information through accurate, consistent, and accessible translations across websites, email campaigns, social media, and digital tools. The Spanish Translator works closely with content strategists, editors, designers, and technical teams to maintain linguistic accuracy, clarity, and compliance with federal accessibility and plain language standards.
This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of one year with two one-year option periods. Compensation:
The salary for this role is $70,000. We make compensation decisions thoughtfully, considering your experience, the skills you bring, and our commitment to internal equity. Fairness and transparency are core to how we operate.
Responsibilities:
• Translate English-language content into accurate, clear, and culturally appropriate Spanish for OHS websites, email campaigns, social media, webinars, and digital tools.
• Ensure all Spanish-language content complies with Plain Language Act, Section 508 accessibility requirements, and OHS/ACF/HHS style and tone standards.
• Maintain and apply consistent terminology by contributing to and using the OHS Spanish glossary of terms across all translated materials.
• Collaborate with content strategists, editors, designers, and technical teams to support the full content lifecycle, including updates, revisions, and archival.
• Provide quality assurance reviews of Spanish-language content prior to publication, correcting linguistic, contextual, and usability issues.
• Support time-sensitive and high-priority translations, including policy updates, public announcements, and urgent communications.
• Assist with Spanish-language support for webinars and virtual events, including translation of promotional, instructional, and participant-facing materials.
• Optimize translations for digital delivery, ensuring readability, mobile usability, and alignment with user experience best practices.
• Other relevant duties as assigned and qualified/trained to perform
Qualifications:
• Professional fluency in Spanish and English, with some experience translating written content.
• 2 years of experience translating or supporting translation of digital or written content (e.g., websites, emails, social media, documents).
• Familiarity with plain language writing and basic accessibility concepts (Section 508 or WCAG), or willingness to learn and apply them.
• Ability to follow established style guides and glossaries to ensure consistent terminology and tone.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage assigned tasks, meet deadlines, and incorporate feedback from editors or senior translators.
• Comfortable working collaboratively with content, design, and project teams in a structured environment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
