We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to guide multiple teams building and scaling our SaaS applications in PHP/Laravel. This role is about coaching engineers, partnering with Product Managers and Product Owners, and ensuring our teams deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality software.

Duties:
- Lead and coach multiple engineers across several teams building SaaS applications in PHP/Laravel.
- Help facilitate Agile ceremonies and ensure teams are applying Agile best practices pragmatically
- Guide architectural discussions, ensuring scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions in a cloud-native (AWS) SaaS environment.
- Assist driving adoption of DevOps best practices including CI/CD, automation, observability, and reliability.
- Encourage a growth mindset through coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback.
- Protect team health and product quality by making tough trade-offs — including when to say “no.”
- Build and maintain a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with Product Managers and Product Owners to align priorities, set goals, and deliver customer value.
- Partner with other leaders to align on long-term engineering strategy and architecture.
- Demonstrate agency, take ownership of identifying and addressing issues and attempt to present solutions.
- Value code quality, maintainability, and effective communication.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset and openness to giving and receiving feedback.
Requirements
- Excellent planning, communication, and collaboration skills; you understand how to help teams grow.
- Strong background in web application architecture and SaaS systems.
- Experience leading Agile teams, with deep knowledge of Agile frameworks and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to coach engineers and technical leads.
- Experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices.
- Ability to balance technical trade-offs with business priorities.
- 7+ years in software engineering, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of PHP/Laravel, MySQL, and modern web stacks.
- Previous work in distributed/remote-first teams.
- US Based with US Citizenship
Nice to have, but not fully required experience:
- Experience scaling web applications that handle high traffic or large data volumes.
- Experience with real-time data processing.
- Hands-on knowledge of API development, and containerization.
- Eastern/Central US Timezone Preferred
