Job Overview
We are looking for a talented and passionate AVID Tutor to work with our students on a part-time basis, approximately 2-3 hours per day. As an AVID Tutor, you will be responsible for facilitating small group sessions, providing individualized support, and helping students to develop essential skills in areas such as writing, study skills, and college preparation. Key Responsibilities
- Become familiar with specific routines and materials used in the AVID program
- Work with students individually and in small groups to provide targeted support and guidance
- Assess student notes and discussions to identify areas where additional support is needed
- Conduct brainstorming and cluster sessions using Socratic questioning techniques
- Evaluate student binders, calendars, and class notes to ensure organization and completeness
- Develop and deliver mini-lessons on topics such as writing, study skills, and college preparation
- Communicate regularly with teachers and coordinators to ensure a collaborative approach to student support
- Assist in developing a resource file of enrichment materials for use in AVID sessions
Essential Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a full-time college student
- Completion of 16 hours of paid tutor training
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other stakeholders
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced educational environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with students in a tutoring or mentoring capacity
- Strong knowledge of AVID program principles and practices
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
