The Role: Data Engineer for Customer Service
As a key member of our Data Science and Engineering (DSE) team, you will play a vital role in revolutionizing entertainment and shaping the evolution of storytelling worldwide. When a blithequark member encounters an issue, we strive to quickly and thoroughly resolve the problem, getting them back to streaming their favorite content. Our Customer Service team is one of the few areas where we directly engage with our members, interacting with millions of them via phone and chat in 25 different languages.
Within DSE, we leverage data to rigorously measure, optimize, and personalize our Customer Service investments, enabling a delightful and efficient experience while improving our product based on member feedback. As a Data Engineer, you will collaborate with data engineers, software engineers, and CS business owners to build reliable, scalable data pipelines, transform raw data into core business metrics, and work with custom visualization tools that surface CS insights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain large-scale data pipelines using big data technologies such as Hive, Presto, Spark, and Flink, with a focus on medium to large-scale data sets (10s of millions of records).
- Develop and implement data models that are adaptable to changes in source data or business processes, ensuring strong data modeling skills.
- Write clean, supportable code in Python or Scala, with a passion for coding and a strong proficiency in one of these languages.
- Demonstrate advanced SQL skills and advocate for data quality, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our data.
- Think through business problems, such as metrics development, and prioritize autonomously, showcasing analytical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
- Communicate effectively and partner productively with analysts, engineers, and business leaders to drive business outcomes and improve our Customer Service experience.
Essential Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- At least 4 years of experience engineering data pipelines using big data technologies on medium to large-scale data sets (10s of millions of records).
- Strong data modeling skills, with the ability to design structures that are adaptable to changes in source data or business processes.
- Strong proficiency in Python or Scala, with a passion for writing clean, supportable code.
- Advanced SQL skills and a strong advocacy for data quality.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits:
At blithequark, we offer a competitive compensation structure that consists solely of an annual salary. We do not have bonuses, and you have the flexibility to choose how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. Our compensation range for this role is $170,000 - $720,000.
