Key Responsibilities
As a Food Service Technician, your key responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized workspace at all times, adhering to National School Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, and Supper program guidelines and requirements
- Receiving, storing, and preparing meals and snacks daily, ensuring accurate meal portioning and proper handling of food and supplies
- Performing and documenting temperature and sanitation checks as required by law, and maintaining a required system of accountability
- Preparing weekly projections to order food and supplies for menus, and utilizing correct measuring and serving utensils
- Ensuring dishwashing is ongoing and completed to meet district sanitation expectations at all times, and operating a cash register, making change accurately, and balancing and closing in a timely manner (when assigned)
- Working independently in all positions as assigned, exemplifying a leadership attitude to ensure that all meals are served in a timely manner
- Maintaining confidentiality within the school, district, and community, and responding to work-related emails in a timely manner
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification (or the ability to obtain one by the start of the second school term of employment)
- A State of Illinois Food Handler card, and the ability to demonstrate specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
- Minimum of one year of experience in cashiering, customer service, cafeteria line server, or a related field (preferred)
- Ability to successfully complete required written documentation, and to verbally communicate effectively
- Bilingual Spanish/English (written and verbal) skills are preferred, but not required
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Previous experience in a food service or hospitality environment, with a strong understanding of food safety and sanitation principles
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment, with a positive attitude and a commitment to providing excellent customer service
- Basic math skills, with the ability to accurately handle cash and operate a cash register
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, and to withstand daily demands of lifting, bending, and pushing heavy carts
