About the Role
We're seeking an experienced and visionary IT Director to join our exceptional IT team. As a key member of our leadership team, you'll play a crucial role in elevating our IT operations to new heights, ensuring seamless collaboration and productivity for Discord employees across the globe. Your mission will be to refine our IT strategy, automate manual processes, and drive innovation in IT support, empowering our employees to work efficiently and effectively from anywhere.
Key Responsibilities
As our ideal candidate, you'll be responsible for:
- Leading and growing an IT team: Manage a dedicated team of IT professionals to support Discord employees, providing guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for growth and development.
- Developing IT strategy: Plan and execute the Workplace IT strategy, creating policies and procedures that align with evolving business needs and ensure seamless collaboration across departments.
- Automating and innovating: Identify and implement opportunities for automation in IT support, recommending new technologies and processes that enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Fostering cross-departmental relationships: Build key relationships with departments like Engineering, Security, Finance, and Procurement, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Managing IT infrastructure and equipment: Oversee the maintenance and updating of hardware (laptops, networks, A/V systems) and manage IT vendors, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Ensuring IT risk management: Work with IT teams to address risks such as disaster recovery, data loss, and maintain proper access controls, ensuring the security and integrity of our systems and data.
- Overseeing helpdesk and software: Manage the IT helpdesk to ensure high-quality customer service and curate software and licenses, ensuring that employees have the tools and resources they need to succeed.
- Handling budgeting and metrics: Draft the annual IT budget, assist in planning, and maintain metrics for continuous improvement and high user satisfaction, ensuring that our IT operations are aligned with business objectives.
What We're Looking For
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- At least eight years of experience in IT operations and three years of experience in managing IT teams and projects.
- A strong focus on customer service, with excellent presentation and training abilities.
- Proficiency in computer systems, networks, security, telecommunications, A/V systems, databases, and storage, with familiarity with Discord's systems (Okta, Oracle, Workday, Zendesk).
- The ability to work in a dynamic, startup environment and implement automation in IT support.
- Proven experience setting IT strategy, building complex metrics/analytics, and making data-driven recommendations.
- Skilled in using scripting languages like Python, Bash, and PowerShell for automation.
- Effective in managing tasks and projects, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and leading IT operations with a team-oriented approach.
