About the Role of an Online Reading Tutor
As an online reading tutor with BookNook, you will have the opportunity to make a direct and positive impact on the lives of K-8 students. You will work in live, synchronous online tutoring sessions using our innovative platform and video conferencing software. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct virtual tutoring sessions using the BookNook platform, with no lesson planning required
- Manage student behavior and engagement throughout sessions, creating a safe and respectful learning environment
- Maintain positive relationships with students, providing feedback and support to help them achieve their goals
- Document observations for each session in the session notes, helping to track student progress and identify areas for improvement
- Commit to a full program with the same group of students throughout, typically 8-16 weeks
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful as an online reading tutor with BookNook, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old and based in the United States with a U.S. mailing address
- Have knowledge of and experience in reading best practices aligned to the science of reading
- Ability to build meaningful connections with students, creating a motivating and encouraging environment
- Creativity and flexibility to meet students where they are, adapting to their individual needs and learning styles
- Experience teaching or tutoring K-8 students, which may include having a current or previous teaching license, serving as a substitute teacher or teaching assistant, or tutoring for another company
- Classroom experience and online teaching or tutoring experience are preferred, but not required
- Access to a computer, webcam, and reliable, high-speed internet connection with a speed of at least 10mbps

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

Our Hiring Process
Our hiring process is designed to be efficient and effective, with the following steps:

- Interview: Applicants invited to our one-way interview round will be asked to submit videos answering questions designed to help us evaluate their experience and educational knowledge
- Hiring Decision: After the interview round, our team will notify applicants within 5 business days of the decision to move forward with the onboarding process
- Onboarding: Applicants selected for onboarding will be asked to complete a paid certification course about the BookNook platform, as well as one or more state-required, fingerprint-based background checks
