About the Role
As a Software Engineer at Southwest Airlines, you will play a critical role in modernizing and upgrading the company's on-premise products through cloud-based innovations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver client and business data search services to the enterprise, driving business growth and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities
- Apply programming development and testing skills to resolve complex issues and drive project success
- Collaborate with architects and engineers to raise technology standards and consistently apply best practices
- Work closely with clients and cross-functional offices to communicate project situations and recommendations
- Document all aspects of a system or application as a reference for future updates and support
- Determine and assess client needs, designing software to meet requirements
- Identify and resolve issues that arise during design, testing, and support processes using critical thinking skills
- Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software
- Prepare and present solutions by determining and planning system specifications, guidelines, and software

Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Proficiency in programming development approaches, practices, concepts, and technologies
- Ability to demonstrate consistent knowledge application and skills in programming development and testing
- Knowledge of at least one required programming language
- Ability to collaborate, communicate, and negotiate with various technology and partner teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues and develop feasible solution recommendations
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while maintaining a high level of fulfillment in all responsible work
- Ability to coach others and develop their skills
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas and strategies to various audiences
Preferred Qualifications
To stand out in this role, you will have:
- Experience with Java, Python, GraphQL, REST, Elasticsearch, AWS Services, CI/CD, and Grafana
- Knowledge of object-oriented principles and design patterns
- Familiarity with data in client/business services
- Experience with ServiceNow/Run and messaging services like Tibco EMS and/or Apache Kafka
- Knowledge of Agile or SAFe methodologies
