Strategic Education, Inc. is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to provide legal advice and serve as in-house counsel on various matters. The role involves assisting with federal regulatory matters, litigation, and providing legal analysis on policy matters. Responsibilities • Assist with federal regulatory matters related to two accredited institutions of higher education • Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings to which the company is a party • Provide legal analysis and advice to administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance issues • Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators • Negotiate and draft contracts: draft legal documents and policies • Research federal and state legal questions • Assist with general corporate matters • Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance • Provide legal and compliance training to in-house clients Skills • Provides legal advice and serves as in-house counsel to Strategic Education on a wide variety of matters • Assist with federal regulatory matters related to two accredited institutions of higher education • Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings to which the company is a party • Provide legal analysis and advice to administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance issues • Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators • Negotiate and draft contracts: draft legal documents and policies • Research federal and state legal questions • Assist with general corporate matters • Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance • Provide legal and compliance training to in-house clients • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills • Excellent interpersonal skills • Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook • Ability and willingness to apply independent judgment in a dynamic environment • At least three years of experience in the practice of law • Bachelor's degree and JD from an ABA-accredited law school • Bar admission, or ability to become admitted, in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington, DC • Must be able to travel 10% of the time • Must be able to lift 25 lbs • Typical office setting • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor • Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant • Access information using a computer • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain • Effectively cope with stressful situations • Strong mental acuity • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job • Higher education experience preferred Benefits • Medical • Dental • Vision • Life and disability plans • Well-being incentives • Parental leave • Paid time off • Certain paid holidays • Tax saving accounts (FSA, HSA) • 401(k) retirement benefit • Employee Stock Purchase Plan • Tuition assistance • Entertainment and retail discounts Company Overview • Strategic Education Inc.
