As an Academic Mentor you will:
- Deliver engaging, standards‑aligned instruction for high‑school AP courses in math, science, English, and history.

- Collaborate with the broader ESM Prep team—including college counselors, executive‑function coaches, and test‑prep specialists—to create seamless, integrated support plans.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, including specialized training for SAT/ACT preparation, diversity‑focused pedagogy, and technology‑enhanced instruction.

Key Responsibilities – Your Day‑to‑Day Impact
Student‑Centric Instruction
- Design and deliver customized lesson plans for AP Calculus AB, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Computer Science, AP English Language & Literature, and AP History (U.S., World, European).
- Utilize diagnostic assessments to identify knowledge gaps and tailor instruction accordingly.
- Incorporate real‑world applications, problem‑solving strategies, and inquiry‑based learning to deepen conceptual understanding.
- Maintain a growth mindset culture by celebrating progress, encouraging resilience, and modeling scholarly curiosity.
Holistic Student Development
- Coach students on executive‑function skills such as time management, organization, and self‑advocacy.
- Offer guidance on college readiness, including course selection, extracurricular planning, and personal statement brainstorming.
- Identify early signs of learning differences and coordinate with specialized support staff to ensure appropriate accommodations.
- Provide constructive, data‑driven feedback after each session and track performance metrics over time.
Collaboration & Community Building
- Participate in weekly mentor meetings to share best practices, discuss student progress, and coordinate interdisciplinary support.
- Engage with parents and guardians through regular updates, progress reports, and virtual conferences.
- Contribute to curriculum development initiatives, including the creation of supplemental resources, practice exams, and instructional videos.
- Support onboarding and mentorship of new Academic Mentors, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Administrative & Professional Growth Duties
- Accurately log tutoring hours, session outcomes, and billing information in our proprietary LMS.
- Complete mandatory training modules on privacy compliance (FERPA), diversity & inclusion, and effective virtual instruction.
- Participate in optional professional development workshops—ranging from advanced pedagogy to instructional technology.
- Assist with marketing initiatives, such as student success story features and testimonial collection, when appropriate.
Essential Qualifications – The Foundation of Success
- Minimum of two (2) years of proven one‑on‑one tutoring or teaching experience at the secondary or college level.
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following AP subjects: Calculus AB/BC, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, English Language & Literature, or History.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, English, History, Education, or Computer Science). Advanced degrees are a plus.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in clear, relatable language.
- Reliable high‑speed internet access and a quiet, professional environment for remote sessions.
- Availability to tutor weekdays after 3 PM and/or weekends (typical schedule: Sunday–Thursday).
- Commitment to a minimum tutoring period through June 2024, with openness to extension or full‑time transition.
