About the Substitute Teacher Role
We're seeking an experienced and passionate Substitute Teacher to join our community in Towaco, NJ. As a Substitute Teacher with Scoot Education, you'll have the flexibility to choose your assignments and work on your own schedule. Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality instruction and support to students in various educational settings, including elementary, middle, and high schools.
- Develop and implement lesson plans, ensuring alignment with the school's curriculum and teaching standards.
- Manage classroom behavior, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and motivation.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, including teachers, administrators, and other support personnel.
- Participate in 1:1 check-ins with your Scoot consultant to discuss school feedback, teaching strategies, and areas for growth.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, including free online training sessions on topics such as trauma-informed teaching and classroom management.
Essential Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor's degree, or 60+ college credits.
- Three professional references, including one from a previous direct supervisor.
- NJ Substitute Credential.
- Background check and TB risk assessment (we'll cover the cost of this).
- Full COVID-19 vaccination.
- A passion for education and putting students first.
- An empathetic nature, a growth mindset, and a drive to be the best you can be.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Substitute Teacher or in a related educational role.
- Special education experience or training.
- Subject-specific expertise in areas such as Math, Science, English, or Special Education.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to new teaching environments and situations.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to work varied schedules.
- Proficiency in technology, including educational software and platforms.

We offer a competitive salary, with pay rates up to $190 for day-to-day assignments and more for long-term assignments. As a W-2 employee, you'll enjoy the benefits of a stable and secure income, without the hassle of managing taxes. Additional perks include:
