Job Overview: Junior Graphic Designer and Technical Writer
We are seeking a talented and versatile Junior Graphic Designer and Technical Writer to join our team on a fully remote basis. As a key member of our communications team, you will be responsible for developing compelling visual and written content that communicates complex ideas, inspires, and informs our clients within the Department of Transportation. Key Responsibilities: Bringing Ideas to Life through Visual and Written Storytelling
- Participate in client meetings and collaborate with senior team members to define communications requirements and present graphical concepts that captivate and engage.
- Write short articles, communications, and website postings that are clear, concise, and compelling, and conform to plain language guidelines and Section 508 compliance standards.
- Collaborate with the team to develop and deliver communications on policy changes, procedures, and IT requirements, ensuring that the messaging is consistent, accurate, and visually appealing.
- Design and develop visually pleasing graphics, icons, animations, banners, and other graphic products for print, digital, and web platforms, using Adobe Creative Suite and other technologies.
- Create infographics, flowcharts, and diagrams that convey complex IT and cybersecurity information in a clear and concise manner, working closely with senior graphic designers and subject matter experts.
- Edit and design professional white paper products in Adobe InDesign, ensuring that the content is accurate, well-structured, and visually appealing.
- Develop graphics for use in PowerPoint slides, large-format posters, newsletters, and other materials, enhancing the visual identity and branding of our clients within agency guidelines.
- Propose new communications channels and ideas that can help to engage our audience and convey our message more effectively.
- Work collaboratively with senior team members to refine and iterate on designs and written content, taking direction while also thinking creatively and outside the box.
Essential Qualifications: The Skills and Experience We Are Looking For
- A robust graphic design portfolio that showcases your creativity, skills, and experience in visual storytelling.
- At least two writing samples that demonstrate your ability to write clear, concise, and compelling content.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
- Excellent graphic design, written, presentation, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different audiences and formats.
- The ability to obtain Public Trust clearance, which is mandatory for this role.
- The capacity to change priorities quickly, deliver high-quality work on time, and meet evolving deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications: The Skills and Experience That Will Give You a Competitive Edge
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat DC, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
