Job Overview
As a Director of UX Design - Emerging Experiences, you'll play a critical role in delivering innovative digital shopping experiences for our guests. Your mission is to develop frameworks for UX sprints, deliver functional proof of concepts and in-market launches, and partner with product, engineering, and other cross-functional peers and leaders to drive business results.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop actionable, multi-horizon strategies for a small portfolio of new experiences by deeply understanding human needs, changes in consumer trends and behavior, business opportunities, and Target's brand potential.
- Bring meaningful guest journeys and experiences to life by thinking holistically, pragmatically, and through the lens of innovation while maintaining a high bar for craft and quality.
- Lead a small but growing team to elevate individual and overall team performance by hiring, coaching, and guiding team members to grow and develop new skills.
- Evangelize design frameworks and drive business outcomes by scaling co-creation models and inspiring your teams to quickly and effectively meet changing consumer needs through the integration of business strategy and technical capabilities.
- Utilize human-centered design thinking, service design, and tried-and-true design craft principles to understand and prioritize guest needs, establish near and long-term design strategies, and deliver a best-in-class guest experience for Target.
- Interface with multiple levels of executive leadership, including Senior Directors, VPs, and SVP+, to articulate the strategic impact of design and drive business results.
Essential Qualifications
- 4-year college degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field such as design, HCI, or a related field.
- 12+ years of experience in user experience design delivering from concept through to execution.
- 5+ years of experience in people leadership with 3+ years as a leader of leaders, with demonstrated strength in hiring, leading, and coaching high-performing, cross-geo or remote teams.
- A proven track record of leading a human-centered co-creative design practice in a large enterprise setting using service design and design thinking with an emphasis on prototyping and experimentation.
- A strong portfolio of work demonstrating the ability to deliver industry-leading emerging experiences, high-quality work from concept through execution utilizing design and innovation frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or post-graduate experience in Design, HCI, or a related field.
- Understanding of market trends, business strategies, and financial sizing, and methods such as business model canvas, lean product development, market and opportunity sizing.
- Ecommerce, marketplace, and/or retail experience.
- Fluency in standard design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
- Awareness of best practices for information architecture, design, and usability principles.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong resource management and planning to define high-level roadmaps, priorities, set expectations, and ensure on-track, on-time delivery in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple programs across multiple stakeholders at the same time, simultaneously managing working team & partners.
- Growth-oriented, strategic mindset.
- Excellent storytelling skills, with the ability to explain design recommendations to non-design stakeholders and utilize data and insights to advocate for the human need.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
The pay range for this role is $160,900.00 - $289,700.00. In addition to your salary, Target offers eligible team members and their dependents comprehensive health benefits and programs, which may include medical, vision, dental, life insurance, and more. Other benefits for eligible team members include 401(k), employee discount, short-term disability, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid national holidays, and paid vacation.
