About the Team and the NVML Organization
The New Verticals Machine Learning (NVML) organization is a critical component of DoorDash's growth strategy, focusing on developing innovative solutions to enhance user engagement, optimize fulfillment and inventory, and create advanced ML-driven catalog building solutions. The NVML organization is divided into three key teams:
- Consumer ML Team: Focuses on developing solutions for personalization, discovery, growth, and search to enhance user engagement and satisfaction.
- Fulfillment and Inventory ML Team: Ensures every delivery is of high quality and affordable by optimizing the matching of orders with motivated and capable delivery individuals and providing real-time understanding of in-store item availability.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations
As a Machine Learning Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of world-class ML engineers within one of the NVML sub-areas. Your leadership will be crucial in driving innovation and impact through advanced ML/AI methodologies. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and Grow a Team: Lead and grow a team of exceptional machine learning engineers delivering on end-to-end product features with state-of-the-art ML approaches.
- Leverage Cutting-Edge Technologies: Leverage cutting-edge Personalization and Search Algorithms, Forecasting techniques, Time-series modeling, Deep Learning (GNN, MTML, Transformers), Computer Vision, and LLMs to solve real consumer problems.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders across DoorDash to define the roadmap and vision for the team and deliver immense impact.
- Encourage Innovation and Teamwork: Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, outside-of-the-box thinking, and teamwork.
- Build and Scale the Team: Build an outstanding team by coaching and empowering engineers through delegation, and applying your technical expertise to hold your team to the highest engineering standards. Scale the team by developing internal and attracting top external talent.
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
We're excited about you because you have:
- Education: B.S., M.S., or PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Industry Experience: 7+ years of industry experience.
- Leadership Experience: Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.
- Machine Learning Foundation: Broad knowledge of machine learning with a strong ML modeling foundation.
- Product Development Experience: Extensive experience in building user-facing products and working directly with product managers.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to partner with teams spanning many disciplines.
- Leadership Abilities: Ability to guide and grow an excellent engineering team in a rapidly changing business environment.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in leading successful applications of machine learning to ranking and recommendation real-world problems is preferred.
