- Performing coding duties for discharged patient medical records using AHA Coding Clinic for ICD-10-CM/PCS and HCPCS, CMS ICD-10-CM, AMA CPT Assistant, and ACEP ED Facility Level Coding Guidelines
- Correctly assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS codes to create APG group assignments
- Querying physicians when documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes
- Reporting unusual findings to the supervisor when coding and ensuring that code assignment is supported by provider documentation
- Maintaining professional competency and knowledge of third-party payer and QIO regulations
- Ensuring compliance with HIPAA and demonstrating discretion and integrity in all aspects of the role
- Working with minimal supervision and managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:
- A strong foundation in medical coding principles and practices, including ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS coding systems
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review and analyze complex medical records and data
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to query physicians and other healthcare professionals effectively
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA and other relevant regulations and guidelines, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity in all aspects of the role
- Proficiency in computer systems and software, including electronic health records and coding systems
Preferred Qualifications
