About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Director of Hub Operations to lead our team in Illinois, responsible for providing operational training, support, and leadership across the hub. As a key local leader, you'll be accountable for overall resource management and planning, including forecasting, budgeting, labor management, and hiring. This is a critical leadership role that requires strong collaboration and communication skills, as you'll be working closely with various teams, including Customer Operations, Customer Service, and Control Center, as well as our partners who support the operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads the teams responsible for staffing, budgeting, audits, accounting, capital planning, local corporate real estate, hiring, and other administrative areas related to the hub
- Demonstrates visible leadership through the motivation, coaching, development, and growth of the team in their area of responsibility, including talent and succession planning
- Develops collaborative relationships across all workgroups and teams across the American Airlines system, including the ability to establish and maintain open communication and a cooperative relationship with all levels of organizational leadership
- Oversees overall day-to-day activities related to the hub, as well as coordination with partner regional carriers
- Develops and monitors station metrics to improve sustainable delivery of hub objectives
- Identifies and analyzes significant trends and variances from operating plan in spending or operational performance
- Drives strategic decision-making by providing insight, forecasting management, and adjusting management support to strategic initiatives, such as process improvement projects, strategic capital expenditures, and technology solutions
- Ensures hub facilities, colleagues, and HDQ support groups are collaborating and working together to achieve the hub's strategic and operational goals
- Monitors spending performance, labor supply, operating performance, and unit costs
- Serves as the liaison with the Airport Authority for Security Identification and Employee Parking capabilities
- Manages oversight of Lost Time Management
- Oversees all aspects of hub staffing, including transfers, RIF and reviews, payroll processing, extended vacations, shift and vacation bids, attendance, overtime, resource allocation, and lost time
- Owns hub compliance financial performance, uniform, parking, and security identification management
Requirements for Success
Essential Qualifications:
- Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
- 4 years of leadership experience, including leading teams, managers, and individual contributors
- 4 years of business, operational, and financial experience in capability in assessing business requirements and developing budgets
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four-year college degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience; Postgraduate education
Skills, Licenses, and Certificates:
- Knowledge of the airline industry, American Airlines (AA) business strategy, company policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements
- Ability to be an action-oriented and results-driven leader, with a natural aptitude for engaging employees across different workgroups
- Ability to influence others through exceptional interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
- Excellent project planning and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively and simultaneously manage multiple large projects within tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making ability
- Ability to proactively and beneficially adapt to changing circumstances
- Ability to think strategically, negotiate effectively, absorb complex details, and use sound intuition and drive in decision-making
- Ability to identify outstanding opportunities for growth, as well as demonstrated success in implementing strategic initiatives under tight timelines
- Ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to handle complex subjects with ease and to engage all levels, both verbally and written
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work a varied schedule depending on the needs of the operation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
