About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Substitute Teacher to join our team in Hawthorne, NJ. As a Substitute Teacher with Scoot Education, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students, while also gaining hands-on teaching experience on your own schedule. We offer competitive pay rates, with up to $190 for day-to-day assignments and more for long-term assignments. Our goal is to provide you with the tools and support you need to excel in the classroom, while also prioritizing your well-being and job satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of subjects, including math, science, English, and social studies, to students of different ages and skill levels
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, adapting to the needs of each classroom and student
- Manage classroom behavior, maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment
- Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and school administrators, providing feedback and support as needed
- Collaborate with other educators to develop and implement curriculum, sharing best practices and expertise
- Participate in professional development opportunities, staying up-to-date on the latest teaching methods and technologies
Essential Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor's degree, or 60+ college credits
- Three professional references, with at least one from a previous direct supervisor
- NJ Substitute Credential
- Background check and TB risk assessment (we'll cover the cost of this)
- Full COVID-19 vaccination
- A passion for education and putting students first

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with students of different ages and skill levels
- Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching, classroom management, and other educational best practices
- Ability to adapt to new situations and challenges, with a flexible and positive attitude
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with students, teachers, and school administrators
