We're seeking an Experienced Early Head Start Teacher to join our team in Concord, NC, and contribute to our commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
About the Role
As an Early Head Start Teacher, you'll work collaboratively with a Co-Teacher to develop and implement individualized and group lesson plans that promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth in infants and toddlers. You'll create a safe and nurturing environment that encourages relational learning, and work closely with families to ensure they're informed and involved in their child's development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized and group educational plans that promote all developmental areas, improving children's readiness for preschool.
- Guide and facilitate daily classroom activities, field trips, and other learning experiences that foster social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
- Practice responsive caregiving, integrating individualized and small group activities into a flexible schedule of learning experiences.
- Conduct conferences and home visits with parents/caregivers to ensure they're informed about their child's progress, development, and learning.
- Maintain accurate records, both on paper and in designated online systems, and ensure confidentiality regarding children and families.
- Plan, conduct, and document observations, assessments, and screenings, maintaining a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child.
- Work with Program Aides and Volunteers to develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities.
- Ensure the safety and security of children, implementing active supervision techniques and maintaining a safe playground environment.
- Create opportunities for parents to engage in their child's education, such as encouraging classroom involvement and home activities.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Education & Inclusion to develop and document progress on a professional development plan.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential, with training or equivalent coursework in early childhood development, focusing on infant and toddler development.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with great problem-solving and time management abilities.
- Knowledge of the purpose and principles of the Head Start/Early Head Start program.
- Ability to relate sensitively with children and maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
- Clear pre-employment background check requirements, including local, state, and national criminal records check.
Preferred Qualifications
We're looking for candidates with:
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish or English and other languages used by children and families).
- Birth-Kindergarten (B-K) Licensure (if in North Carolina).
