About the Opportunity
We're on the lookout for a talented European Portuguese language teacher to work with ten young clients in Philadelphia. As a Language Trainers instructor, you'll have the flexibility to teach in a hybrid setting, combining face-to-face sessions at the students' office with online lessons via Zoom. This is an exciting chance to leverage your teaching expertise, cultural knowledge, and language passion to make a meaningful impact on our students' linguistic and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging, student-centered European Portuguese language lessons to a group of 10 young learners (ages 14-17) with a beginner level proficiency
- Conduct 20 one-hour sessions (10 face-to-face and 10 online) at a time that suits you and your students, ideally on Saturdays at 11am
- Adapt your teaching approach to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of your students, ensuring they feel motivated and supported throughout the course
- Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adjust your lesson plans accordingly
- Maintain a positive, professional, and respectful attitude in your interactions with students, colleagues, and clients
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- Native or near-native fluency in European Portuguese (as spoken in Portugal)
- A teaching degree or relevant certification in language instruction (e.g., TEFL, CELTA)
- Proven experience as a language teacher, translator, or interpreter
- A valid working visa (note that we cannot sponsor visas for this freelance position)
- Residence within 30 miles of Philadelphia, PA 19130, to facilitate face-to-face lessons
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for online teaching (e.g., Zoom)
- A passion for language teaching and a commitment to ongoing professional development
Preferred Qualifications

- Previous experience teaching young learners or working with students of similar age and proficiency levels
